Wolff singles out Antonelli for praise as he explains where Mercedes are struggling compared to McLaren.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff praised teenage sensation Kimi Antonelli for an impressive showing in Miami, even as he acknowledged the gap between the Silver Arrows and McLaren—highlighted by George Russell finishing over 30 seconds behind third-placed Oscar Piastri and race-winner Lando Norris.

Despite several positives for Mercedes, Wolff admitted McLaren’s strong form made it difficult to gauge the true pace of his own team across the weekend.

FACTS AND STATS: Piastri secures McLaren’s first victory hat trick in over 25 years.

While  Russell claimed his fourth podium of the season—helped by the timing of a Virtual Safety Car—Antonelli turned heads with a standout weekend. The Italian teenager clinched Sprint pole, becoming the youngest F1 polesitter in any format, and followed up with a P3 in Grand Prix Qualifying.

I think the high point definitely was seeing his speed on a single lap—great,” Wolff said, singling Antonelli out for special praise. That’s another proof of his talent and a good indication of what the future can be.
